Abstract The South African National Antarctic Expedition (SANAE) is an annual cruise undertaken by the Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries (DEFF) to change the overwintering teams in Antarctica and to replenish the supplies at the SANAE IV Research base. This voyage was to deliver the SANAE 59 team to the island and return with the SANAE 58 team. The cruise was undertaken on the SA Agulhas II Voyage 041 between 12 December 2019 and 27 February 2020 with a full scientific complement.
