Abstract Here we present processed daily bottom temperature from an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) at location M1 (46.773°S; 37.912°E) on the Prince Edward Island shelf, between 30 April 2020 and 25 April 2021. The South African component of the international South Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation project (SAMOC-SA) aims to characterise the time-mean and time-varying components of the SAMOC in the South Atlantic Ocean and monitor the variability of the main Southern Ocean frontal systems associated with the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC), south of Africa.
Methods A bottom-mounted, upward-looking, 150 kHz RD Instruments Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) was deployed at location M1 (46.773°S; 37.911°E), on the shelf between Marion Island and Prince Edward Island. A temperature sensor on the instrument measured hourly temperature readings between 30 April 2020 and 25 April 2021, at a depth of 160m. These hourly values were averaged to daily means. Daily values were only generated for days on which there were 75% or more hourly readings.
