Abstract	Here we present processed magnitude and direction of hourly currents in the upper part of the water column (52.49 - 452.48m) from an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) located at a depth of 477m at M8 (34.4792°S; 17.3403°E) along the South Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (MOC) Basin-scale Array (SAMBA) transect in the Cape Basin region of the South Atlantic Ocean, between 05 October 2018 and 04 October 2020. The South African component of the international South Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation project (SAMOC-SA) aims to characterise the time-mean and time-varying components of the SAMOC in the South Atlantic Ocean and monitor the variability of the main Southern Ocean frontal systems associated with the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC), south of Africa.
Methods	A subsurface-mounted, upward-looking, 75 kHz RD Instruments Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) was configured with a bin size of 16m and a blanking distance of 7m, and deployed at a depth of 477m at location M8 (34.4792°S; 17.3403°E), along the South Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation Basin-scale Array (SAMBA) transect in the Cape Basin region of the South Atlantic Ocean. The instrument measured hourly magnitude and direction in the upper part of the water column (52.49 - 452.48m) between 05 October 2018 15h00 and 04 October 2020 10h00. These hourly values were corrected for magnetic declination, and only hourly values which showed ≥ 75% good beam data were used.
