Abstract Here we present processed hourly subsurface temperatures from Underwater Temperature Recorders (UTRs) located at a depth of 5m off Mangolds Pool, South Africa (34.0487°S; 25.5867°E), along the south coast of Southern Africa, between 1 November 2001 and 8 November 2002. At selected sites around Southern Africa, UTRs have been used to obtain long-term records of bottom temperatures in the nearshore environment, at depths ranging from 2m to 34m. Note that for some deployments, two UTRs were deployed to simultaneously record bottom temperatures.
Methods Subsurface-mounted, Underwater Temperature Recorder(s) (UTR) were deployed at a depth of 5m off Mangolds Pool, South Africa (34.0487°S; 25.5867°E), along the south coast of Southern Africa. The instrument measured hourly temperature readings between 01 November 2001 13h00 and 08 November 2002 10h00.
