Abstract Here we present raw temperatures from Underwater Temperature Recorders (UTRs) located at a depth of 28m off Aliwal Shoal (30.2643°S 30.828°E), along the east coast of South Africa, between 20 October 2001 and 23 February 2002. Note that the data that falls outside of these dates is not from the deployment. At selected sites around Southern Africa, UTRs have been used to obtain long-term records of bottom temperature in the nearshore environment, at depths ranging from 2m to 34m. Note that for some deployments, two UTRs were deployed to simultaneously record bottom temperatures.
Methods The raw data was collected using an Underwater Temperature Recorder (UTR) that was configured to sample every 60 minutes. The subsurface-mounted UTR was deployed at a depth of 28m off Aliwal Shoal (30.2643°S; 30.828°E), along the east coast of South Africa. The instrument(s) measured hourly temperature(s) readings between 20 October 2001 and 23 February 2002. Note that the UTR stopped recording data from 3 January 2022 onwards as the battery failed.
