Abstract The Anchovy Recruitment Survey was conducted on the Africana Voyage 103 from 12 - 28 May 1992. The main objectives of the cruise were to estimate the abundance and size-structure of anchovy and pilchard recruits; to describe the distribution and behaviour patterns of anchovy and pilchard recruits and the influence of oceanographic variables on these; to collect biological data on pelagic fish species and to examine the distribution, abundance and production of plankton in relation to the environment and to recruit distribution and condition.
