Abstract | Here we present processed daily bottom temperatures from an ADCP located at a depth of 304m at M4 (34.2942°S; 17.8792°E) along the South Atlantic MOC Basin-scale Array (SAMBA) transect in the Cape Basin region of the South Atlantic Ocean, between 03 October 2020 and 16 July 2022. The South African component of the international South Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation project (SAMOC-SA) aims to characterise the time-mean and time-varying components of the SAMOC in the South Atlantic Ocean and monitor the variability of the main Southern Ocean frontal systems associated with the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC), south of Africa. |
Methods | A subsurface-mounted, upward-looking, 150 kHz RD Instruments Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) was deployed at location M4 (34.2942°S; 17.8792°E), along the South Atlantic MOC Basin-scale Array (SAMBA) transect in the Cape Basin region of the South Atlantic Ocean. A temperature sensor on the instrument measured hourly temperature readings between 03 October 2020 and 16 July 2022, at a depth of 304m. These hourly values were averaged to daily means. Daily values were only generated for days on which there were 75 % or more hourly readings. |
