Abstract | Here we present processed hourly subsurface temperatures from an ADCP located at a depth of 460m at M10 (34.4998°S; 14.7035°E) along the South Atlantic MOC Basin-scale Array (SAMBA) transect in the Cape Basin region of the South Atlantic Ocean, between 07 October 2020 and 01 October 2022. The South African component of the international South Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation project (SAMOC-SA) aims to characterise the time-mean and time-varying components of the SAMOC in the South Atlantic Ocean and monitor the variability of the main Southern Ocean frontal systems associated with the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC), south of Africa. |
Methods | A subsurface-mounted, upward-looking, 75 kHz RD Instruments Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) was deployed at location M10 (34.4998°S; 14.7035°E), along the South Atlantic MOC Basin-scale Array (SAMBA) transect in the Cape Basin region of the South Atlantic Ocean. A temperature sensor on the instrument measured hourly temperature readings between 07 October 2020 20h00 and 01 October 2022 05h00, at a depth of 460m. |
