Abstract The South African component of the international South Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation project (SAMOC-SA) aims to characterise the time-mean and time-varying components of the SAMOC in the South Atlantic Ocean and monitor the variability of the main Southern Ocean frontal systems associated with the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC), south of Africa. Here we present processed hourly subsurface temperatures from an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) located at a depth of 292m at M9 (34.50017°S; 17.1394°E) along the South Atlantic MOC Basin-wide Array (SAMBA) transect in the Cape Basin region of the South Atlantic Ocean, between 02 December 2015 and 09 April 2017.
Methods A subsurface-mounted, upward-looking, 75 kHz RD Instruments Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) was deployed at location M9 (34.50017°S; 17.1394°E), along the South Atlantic MOC Basin-scale Array (SAMBA) transect in the Cape Basin region of the South Atlantic Ocean. A temperature sensor on the instrument measured hourly temperature readings between 02 December 2015 21h00 and 09 April 2017 12h00, at a depth of 292m. The data were then formatted in a .txt file with data values separated by commas.
