Abstract	The South African National Antarctic Expedition (SANAE) is an annual cruise undertaken by the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) to change the overwintering teams in Antarctica and to replenish the supplies at the SANAE IV Research base. This voyage was to deliver the SANAE 52 team to the island and return with the SANAE 51 team. The cruise was undertaken between 06 December 2012 and 19 February 2013 with full scientific complement.
