Abstract The South African component of the international South Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation project (SAMOC-SA) aims to characterise the time-mean and time-varying components of the SAMOC in the South Atlantic Ocean and monitor the variability of the main Southern Ocean frontal systems associated with the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC), south of Africa. Here we present raw data from an ADCP, deployed at a depth of 166m, at location M1 (46.775°S; 37.900°E) on the Prince Edward Island shelf, between 07 April 2014 and 19 April 2015.
Methods The raw data was collected using a bottom-mounted, upward-looking, 150 kHz RD Instruments Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) that was configured with a bin size of 8 m and a blanking distance of 3.52 m. The ADCP was deployed at location M1 (46.775°S; 37.900°E),in a depth of 166m, on the shelf between Marion Island and Prince Edward Island. The instrument measured hourly magnitude and direction throughout the water column between 07 April 2014 and 19 April 2015.
