Abstract The International Indian Ocean Expedition 2 (IIOE2) is a collaborative regional cruise to build capacity and strength within Africa. The focus will be on developing students in the region in the areas of physical oceanography, chemistry, biological oceanography, benthic biodiversity, marine top predators and marine plastics. This is processed Shipboard Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (SADCP) data from the IIOE2 cruise on SA Agulhas II Voyage 032, between the 10th June and 13th July 2018.
Methods This ADCP dataset was collected on the SA Agulhas II Voyage 032, 10 June to 13 July, 2018. The data was collected from a seventy five kilohertz ADCP (Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler) mounted on a drop keel below the ship, 12m below the water line. Typically the ADCP is switched on when the ship leaves port and turned off when the ship returns. The netCDF file contains information about the set-up (bin size, number of bins, sampling frequency etc) and is COARDS (Cooperative Ocean/Atmosphere Research Data Service) compliant. This data was processed from the LTA (long term average) files using CODAS (Common Ocean Data Acquisition System). This procedure included:- bottom detection,- manual spike removal, and- CODAS recalibration. The curation QA process edited the netCDF files to be CF compliant. Please note that the files are not completely CF compliant, as suitable equivalent CF standards could not always be found.
