Abstract | Here we present processed hourly subsurface temperatures from an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) located at a depth of 466m at M9 (34.50295°S; 17.1242°E) along the South Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (MOC) Basin-scale Array (SAMBA) transect in the Cape Basin region of the South Atlantic Ocean, between 15 October 2018 and 06 October 2020. The South African component of the international South Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation project (SAMOC-SA) aims to characterise the time-mean and time-varying components of the SAMOC in the South Atlantic Ocean and monitor the variability of the main Southern Ocean frontal systems associated with the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC), south of Africa. |
Methods | A subsurface-mounted, upward-looking, 75 kHz RD Instruments Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) was deployed at location M9 (34.50295°S; 17.1242°E), along the South Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation Basin-scale Array (SAMBA) transect in the Cape Basin region of the South Atlantic Ocean. A temperature sensor on the instrument measured hourly temperature readings between 15 October 2018 09h00 and 06 October 2020 05h00, at a depth of 466m. |
