Abstract Here we present raw temperatures from Underwater Temperature Recorders (UTRs) located at a depth of 5m off Mangolds Pool, South Africa (34.0487°S; 25.5867°E), along the south coast of Southern Africa, between 8 November 2002 and 12 June 2003. Note that the data that falls outside of these dates is not from the deployment. At selected sites around Southern Africa, UTRs have been used to obtain long-term records of bottom temperature in the nearshore environment, at depths ranging from 2m to 34m. Note that for some deployments, two UTRs were deployed to simultaneously record bottom temperatures.
Methods The raw data was collected using Underwater Temperature Recorder(s) (UTR) that was configured to sample every 60 minutes. The subsurface-mounted UTR was deployed at a depth of 5m off Mangolds Pool, South Africa (-34.0487°S; 25.5867°E), along the south coast of Southern Africa. The instrument measured hourly temperature readings between 8 November 2002 and 12 June 2003.
