Abstract | The South African component of the international South Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation project (SAMOC-SA) aims to characterize the time-mean and time-varying components of the SAMOC in the South Atlantic Ocean and monitor the variability of the main Southern Ocean frontal systems associated with the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC), south of Africa. Here we present processed daily bottom temperature from an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) at location M2 (46.713°S; 37.902°E) on the Prince Edward Island shelf, between 26 April 2023 and 24 April 2024. |
Methods | A bottom-mounted, upward-looking, 150kHz RD Instruments Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) was deployed at location M2 (46.713°S; 37.902°E), on the shelf between Marion Island and Prince Edward Island. A temperature sensor on the instrument measured hourly temperature readings between 26 April 2023 and 24 April 2024, at a depth of 262m. These hourly values were averaged to daily means. Daily values were only generated for days on which there were 75% or more hourly readings. |
