Abstract | The South African component of the international South Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation project (SAMOC-SA) aims to characterize the time-mean and time-varying components of the SAMOC in the South Atlantic Ocean and monitor the variability of the main Southern Ocean frontal systems associated with the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC), south of Africa. Here we present raw data from an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP), deployed at a depth of 267m, at location M2 (46.713°S; 37.902°E) on the Prince Edward Island shelf, between 26 April 2023 and 24 April 2024. |
Methods | The raw data was collected using a bottom-mounted, upward-looking, 150kHz RD Instruments Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) that was configured with a bin size of 8m and a blanking distance of 3.52m. The ADCP was deployed at location M2 (46.713°S; 37.902°E),in a depth of 267m, on the shelf between Marion Island and Prince Edward Island. The instrument measured hourly magnitude and direction throughout the water column between 26/04/2023 and 24/04/2024. |
